A monthly apron pattern and sewing class

Meeting 1: Our first apron style – a classic with a deep lower band, pocket and a gathered waistband. As of October 30, 2018, fabric kits are still available for this look for $19.99, pattern included. Contact Brenda for details.

As you may have heard, everything’s coming up aprons lately at the ABQ Sewing Studio. Our year-long apron club meeting takes place the last Monday of the month from 1 pm – 4 pm (excepting December). New participants are welcome!

Merle Siebec is making two different aprons with her first pattern. The pattern for the first class is free!

In person, and online

The club currently includes our ‘in-person’ participants who come to the studio to sew, visit, get my help and have tasty snacks. Currently, there are three in-person participants, as well as a seven member on-line group that are sprinkled across the country.

First apron the club made
Our first apron. Made by online participant Paulette Eccleston of Kamloops, BC. Paulette was a columnist for the Canadian Quilter Magazine and reviewed Canadian designed patterns for many years. She reviewed my work in the magazine early on in my design career.

Dutch Honey Cake was this month’s featured baking

Dutch Honey Cake was this month’s featured baking with the recipe given to all participants. The tablecloth you see here was part of a matching handmade tablecloth/apron set I received at a wedding shower back in 1981. Those were the days of polyester fabrics. The nice thing about polyester is that it is practically indestructible and it never needs pressing! That’s why I still have both 37 years later.

How the Apron Club works

Every month our participants receive the next apron pattern along with tasty recipes, stories and membership to our private Tie One On Apron Club facebook group. That’s where we share what we’ve made, what we’ve baked and our own apron reminiscences.

Apron pocket
Karen decided to feature a motif from her main fabric on her pocket. Playing with the pattern is always fun!

For our first in-person meeting Merle, Karen and Christine had the option of making the waistband with gathering or tucks. Everybody decided on tucks.

Four o’clock rolled around quickly but found all the girls with a cute apron. Merle’s husband Ron popped in to get our picture. He’s a bit shaky with the camera but you’ll get the general idea!
