Gathering of the Guilds

New event organized by the Huron Perth Quilters Guild

Speaker at Gathering of the Guilds

A new event, the Gathering of the Guilds, took place at the Kirkton Community Centre .

Organized by the Huron Perth Quilters Guild, the gathering was an opportunity for guild members and anyone interested in quilting to come together to celebrate quilting. Many exciting prizes were offered in the draws. A tasty tea was served, and vendors from the guild, including myself, set up their booths in an adjoining room.

Gathering and display room

Fibre artist Mary Pal, along with her trunk show, was booked for the event, but when Mary begged off after receiving an offer to show her work in Beijing, the show organizers put together an alternative presentation.

Huron Perth Guild members, many of them ribbon winners, presented several mini shows instead. Speakers included Joan Robinson, Darlene Rogers, Sandra Thomas, Becky Turner, Thea Rijkhoff, Liz McNally and Jill Thorpe. Micaela Coons showed her own work as well as quilts from the area’s past, part of the Stratford Perth Museum collection. The work of absent member Diane Carson was also hanging in the hall.

Frankly, the show could not have been better with so much raw talent and so many beautiful quilted pieces filling the room.

The quilts were spread between tables offering everyone a closer look between speaking events…
There’s nothing like a good trunk show and having the work of eight talented quilters on display was a rare treat…

Nothing speaks louder than pictures. I hope you are as inspired as I was by all of the beautiful work brought together under one roof.

Who knew that the small town of Kirkton would become a virtual quilting mecca in Ontario? (Well, maybe founding member Joan Robinson did!)

I found this when looking for the Huron Perth Quilters Guild website. I am so glad you provided so many clear photos of our members’ beautiful quilts. Now with COVID it will be several months before we can all meet in person again, so seeing this gives one something to look forward to.
