Sewing for a good cause with Sew Powerful
The Sew Powerful charity bag class took place on Saturday with a morning and afternoon session. These bags are being sent to Zambia.
The program helps girls by providing them with the bags packed with reusable feminine hygiene supplies.
This allows them to stay in school rather than staying at home.
It’s not too late to help. We’ll be shipping all bags made and donated by other sewists at the end of December.
Contact me if you’d like the pattern in order to participate by sewing at home. We are a drop off center for those of you making bags. Remember to include $3 for each bag to cover shipping.

Everything Goes Bag Class
An Everything Goes Bag was created by all participants in this Wednesday class. We took our time and the class ran from 9 am to 6 pm. I’m sure everybody slept well that night!

We have a wide variety of classes. You can find information about our classes on this page or have a look at our calendar.
Hometown Hockey Comes to Strathroy
The town was painted red this past weekend in Strathroy when Front and Frank Streets were closed for a huge street party as Hometown Hockey made its 5th stop of the season here in Strathroy, just one block east of the ABQ Sewing Studio.
Set-up started on Oct. 31st and by early Saturday morning, when I took a quick walkabout before opening the studio, the crew was putting the finishing touches to the huge street party.
There were free hockey jerseys for all from Scotiabank and hot and crusty pizza was being passed out, compliments of Dr. Oetker and mascot Giuseppe, to an appreciative crowd.
Alumni players Brian Campbell and Mike Stapleton signed autographs, bands played on the main stage, popcorn was passed out, interactive video was enjoyed, and street hockey was played. Everybody dressed up and windows were decorated throughout the town.
The big event was the arrival of Ron McLean and Tara Sloan from Hockey Night in Canada both hosting a viewing party at Frank and Centre St. for the game between the Calgary Flames and the Washington Capitals. Tara also dropped the puck on Saturday night for the Strathroy Rockets game. Fireworks lit up the Sunday night sky… What fun!
