Quilt on an Embroidery Machine

Finish your quilt with Solaris 2 Embroidery Machine from Baby Lock

The I.Q. Designer on the Baby Lock Solaris 2 embroidery machine can be used to incorporate a lovely pattern into your quilt. This machine has some amazing built-in fill patterns and in this video, Kelley walks you through the process step by step.

Quilting with BabyLock Solaris 2 using IQ Designer

Be sure to watch the video to see exactly how it’s done, but here are some highlights

Design the pattern

After you’ve threaded your machine with the colours you want to use, start by scanning the fabric then putting that fabric into the background of your screen. Once it’s finished scanning, you can see the background image of your quilt on your screen, so you can see exactly where to design.

You’ll put a fill pattern inside the area on the quilt and fill it with a design from the Solaris 2. There are a lot of different choices and sometimes the hardest part is choosing the fill pattern you want to use!

You don’t have to worry about getting it perfect the first time. You can pan around and make adjustments as needed. You can use the IQ Designer’s touch screen or attach a mouse, although it’s easier to design using a stylus.

Save your design to the memory of the machine or onto a USB stick. Now you can reuse the design on your other blocks.

Design placement on your quilt

Not only do you see the design on the screen with your scanned quilt image in the background, but you can also use the projector to project a portion of your design directly onto the quilt. Positioning buttons on the screen allow you to place the design exactly where it needs it to be.

Stitch the design onto the quilt

The next step is to click embroidery and the machine stitches out your design.

You’ll see in the video that a block in this particular quilt took a bit less than six minutes, so you can finish a quilt pretty quickly.

The IQ designer on Baby Lock machines give you the ability to create your own embroideries and do your own editing onscreen. It’s just amazing, and if you’ve ever thought about adding embroidery to your quilting, you should consider the Solaris 2.
