Quilting Block by Block

Longing to make a quilt but afraid you’ll mess it up?

Starting a quilting project on your own can be a scary proposition.

  • Are you frightened of tackling a full-sized quilt project?
  • Do great pieces of fabric that need cutting leave you in a cold sweat?
  • Does the thought of picking out your own fabrics worry you?

How a block-of-the-month (BOM) quilt can give you the confidence to make a large quilt

Breaking a big project down into smaller chunks makes it easier to manage and gets rid of the overwhelm. Joining a program that includes access to expert help and interaction with others making the same quilt ensures you’ll not only finish the project, but you’ll also be happy with the result.

  • Would you appreciate getting to know others making the same project?
  • Want to have an available dedicated specialist who knows all about how to make your quilt handy to help you?
  • Do you enjoy getting something in the mail each month?
  • Does spending a little on your quilt each month make it easier to reach your goals?
  • Would having a group cheering you on help you to finish your project?

When you join a BOM program you receive a small portion of your quilt to make any time you like over a month-long period, and at the end of a set period of months, you have all the blocks completed and put together as a quilt top, ready to be quilted.

Among Brenda’s Quilts & Bags BOM Programs

Every so often we open registration for a new block of the month program. Here are some quilts that we’ve done. Follow us on Facebook or sign up for our newsletter at the bottom of this article to receive announcements about new BOM quilts opening for registration.

The fabrics for these quilts have been curated by professionals in the quilting world – guaranteeing a gorgeous finished project that you’ll treasure.

Your sewing for the month consists of making one block (think a 12 ½” square block) or, if your block is repeated, you might make a few of them.

For some programs, you’ll receive monthly kits that include color instructions, fabrics for the blocks, borders and binding. Others require that all the fabric is purchased before the program begins, but all fabric is clearly marked and you will receive monthly instructions.

Additionally, for each BOM quilt project, we suggest backing fabric. This is an optional purchase.

Support throughout your quilting project

When you join one of our BOM programs you get access to a private Facebook group for that quilt.

Our Ribbon Candy Sweeties group headed by Kelley Richardson

In the Facebook group, you’ll find everyone else who is part of the program, including your helpful BOM guru. She’s always there to help you out and will be available on Facebook, by phone, and online to help you with any bumps you encounter.

Chat with friends, discuss techniques, your day, or see each other’s work. It’s lots of fun to make new friends and quilting is a great bonding experience!

You’ll find helpful videos in the Facebook group to teach you the techniques used to make your blocks.

If you make a mistake and waste a small amount of fabric, no need to panic! We have some here to help you get back on track.

Registration opens periodically for our BOM programs. Announcements are made on our Facebook page and in our newsletter. Add yourself to our email newsletter using the form below.
