A Yorkville Shopper Class Plus a Trunk Show at the Simcoe County Quilters’ Guild

I was invited to present my trunk show ‘Developing the Designer In You’ to the Simcoe County Quilters’ Guild on October 19th and 20th, 2017.

I noticed in my calendar that I was also engaged to visit to Simcoe next year with my trunk show. This lead to the following self study geography lesson.

Where is Simcoe County?

I already knew that the town of Simcoe is in Norfolk County near Lake Erie but surprise, there is also the County of Simcoe and it envelopes the Barrie area. Barrie is on, you guessed it…. Lake Simcoe.

Kempenfelt Bay and the parks along the bay are a feature of that city on an arm of Lake Simcoe. Talk about confusing geography! John Graves Simcoe, an early Lieutenant Governor of Ontario certainly left behind a legacy of like named areas, cities and bodies of water!

Enough geography though.

Developing the Designer in You Presentation

Cheryle Leechman, the Program Coordinator and I

The Simcoe guild was extremely welcoming to me with Cheryle Leechman and Christine Lewis from the group treating me like a queen. This is so appreciated when you are on your own in a strange area.

This vibrant guild has about 80 members and meets at the Simcoe County Museum. If you’ve never visited that museum on your travels I can recommend it.

The Yorkville Shopper Class

Eleven participants joined me for a full day Yorkville Shopper class at the museum the following day.

This is a fairly ambitious bag to make in 6 hours but the girls worked away with good results.

They were not done but they knew with several more steps how to get there. I’m looking forward to receiving pictures of their bags in the near future to share with you on the Show and Tell page.

It’s always a joy to visit a group that is so on point – interested in learning new things, new techniques and having fun at the same time. Thanks again ladies!
