Editor’s note: This is part of a series of posts that will make up a guide to sewing machine feet. Find them all here.

Walking foot highlights

Using the right sewing machine foot can make all the difference. New and experienced quilters will appreciate this in-depth look at the walking foot, its attachments, and the different types of walking feet available.

For quilting, use a walking foot

Walking feet are made to feed evenly multiple layers of fabric. So when you are quilting, you definitely want to use your walking foot.

They are not just for straight-line quilting anymore. You can do straight-line quilting, you can do gentle curves and you can even use some of your decorative stitches to add a little bit more interest to your quilting stitches.

Hints for comfortable quilting

Near the end of the video Kelley gives you some hints about how to set up your sewing machine and work station for quilting so you don’t end up with aches and pains. She demonstrates how to place the quilt and explains the best way to keep your stitches even.

Excellent Tutorial, thank you Kelley. I have the Muvit electronic foot and had no idea about the purpose of the little switch on the side. I suppose I could’ve looked in the Users Guide. Now I don’t need to look because I know. I just hate when I’m sewing along and realize my fat belly is holding my fabric and playing tug o’ war with my walking foot!! Off to look for your other tutorial on machine feet.
