Breathe some life into your look with a colorful tote bag

This video is an introduction to the Essentials Tote from the video class for the bag at Make Bags With Brenda. This pattern is also available in a paper version.

Make your statement using 12 Fat Quarters

  • Zippered swing purse attaches to the exterior or is carried inside.
  • Express your style by crafting this bag with 12 of your favorite fat quarters.
  • Closes with a click of the magnetic closure.
  • So many pockets and then some.
  • Tote measures: 14 1/2″W x 13″H x 7″D Swing Purse measures: 7 3/4″W x 4 1/2″H

The idea for the Essentials Tote bag pattern was sparked from some lovely fabrics. I’ve gathered together the posts from the time I was designing the Essentials Tote into one chronological series.

Be sure to view the photo gallery further down to see what others have done with this pattern!

The Essentials Tote is also available as a video class

A comment from Marjorie Stevens

Marjorie made this batik version of the Essentials Bag. She and her friend Gayle made bags together. She writes:

Gayle and myself made Essential Tote bags following your online videos. They were easy to follow and made the whole sewing process an enjoyable experience.
