Do you have an idea for a blog post?
If you think you might have something that the audience of Among Brenda’s Quilts & Bags, or Make Bags With Brenda would like, contact me at amongbrendasquilts@gmail.com .
This is a great way for you to share your knowledge and expertise with our audience. Even if you’re a local shop, blogging on our site and others like it can help you build your authority as an expert. It’s similar to being published in a magazine in that way. Link to the article from your facebook page and other social media.
We’ll also put a link up on our social media, and put up an author bio with your post, in which you may link back to your website or facebook page, or both.
We encourage you to link within the article as well, as long as the links are relevant. If we are unsure about the quality of a link you’ve provided, we may either delete the link or we may make it ‘nofollow,’ which means the search engines will ignore it. This is just to protect us from sending readers to pages with spam and other online nastiness.
Editorial Guidelines
Whether you have your own blog or not, guesting on other sites is a great way to get your thoughts in front of people who are truly interested in what you do.
Your idea and how it suits our audience is the most important thing about your article. If we don’t accept your article, it’s probably because the idea doesn’t work for the readers of this blog. If that happens, don’t be discouraged. Just try again with another idea!
If you’re writing the article because you have something to sell, that’s fine; just make sure the content is focused on something relevant and interesting to readers and is not an overt sales pitch.
We aren’t looking for writers, we’re looking for subject matter experts
It doesn’t matter if you’ve never had an article published before, and we don’t even care if you are a good writer (although we’re happy if you happen to be good), as long as the substance of your article has value. Our blog editor will edit your article to make sure it meets our standards. Don’t be intimidated by this process: she sometimes edits my posts too!
Here are some of the ways your article may be edited:
- Grammar
- Article Structure
- Headline
- Subheadlines
- Slight rewrites to include keywords for search engine optimization
You will be able to review the changes before publication.
How to pitch your article
Articles should be between 500-1200 words and should address a single topic. Review Sew Wonderful on this site and the blog at Make Bags With Brenda to become familiar with the sort of articles we publish.
Here are a few starter ideas but don’t limit yourself:
- Tutorials of sewing techniques using video, or pictures and text
- How-to articles
- Reviews
- Thoughtful opinions about your niche
- Experiences you’ve had as a result of running your business
When you contact me, either give me the idea first by itself, or write the full article and send it along. Either is fine. Please provide any photos. You may have produced a video related to your article. If that is the case, please provide a link so we can embed it in the article.
I’ll let you know if I like the idea and would like to publish it, and if it’s a go, you’ll be contacted by Susan, the blog editor, to continue with the rest of the process.
