Join us June 2, 2022 at 15 Centre St. West
ABQ Sewing Studio moved to a new location in Strathroy, Ontario at the end of April, 2022.
Now, it’s time to celebrate with a grand re-opening event!
Ribbon cutting
Our ribbon-cutting ceremony will feature popular Strathroy-Caradoc councillor, John Brennan. John launched into celebrity status with his famous lego electoral college map. He’s now retired from teaching high school history but is still entertaining and teaching in his own witty fashion.
The patio is open
Our patio will be open for your enjoyment – have a seat, it’s a wonderful spot to enjoy a cuppa and those tasty nibbles that we’ll have for you.
Win a prize
Fish for a prize
Test drive a sewing machine or spend at least $20 and you get to fish for a prize in our fantastic fish bowl!
Guess the quilt block
We have our quilt block on the exterior facade at the front of the building. Before you come in, take a good look at it and if you are the first person to tell us which block it is, you win a fat quarter pack!
Experts on hand
Northcott Fabrics Representative
Ross Madin of Northcott Fabrics will be talking about his company and its fabrics. This company has an office in Vaughan, Ontario. I design patterns for their Look-Books.
Shop Northcott Fabrics at ABQ online.
Ross also represents FIGO Fabrics.
Stay comfortable while you sew
At 11:30, Dr. Brooke Early from Middlesex Chiropractic will talk to us about proper posture and other tips to eliminate body fatigue when at the sewing machine.

Baby Lock Sewing Machines Representative
We had planned for a representative from Baby Lock of Canada to be here but she has fallen ill and will not be able to attend. Not to worry, though! Our regulars will fill in.
Our in-house sewing experts
Irene Mischkinis, our garment sewing specialist, will also be with us and you’ll see her in action teaching. Irene is running an open sew class in the morning. It’s full but take a seat because you’re welcome to watch to see what everyone is learning to do.
In the afternoon, Irene will be doing sewing demos. Bring your questions and she’ll answer them. Failing that, watch her do different neckline treatments for knits as well as how to make a facing. And you’ll find out how to make, tucks, pin-tucks, do couching, ruching and more. This gal is a font of information for sewists.
Kelley Richardson will be sharing her sewing machine wisdom. Kelley is a machine sewist extraordinaire and will demo the machines – bring your questions! She’s proficient on all the sewing, embroidery and sergers, as well as the long arm machines. Take this opportunity to test drive any of our models. Try one out and get the opportunity to dip in your hand and pull out a prize from our fish bowl.
Shirley Parkins-Bobier will be demo-ing the techniques used to make our June free pattern of the month project, the Dicey Yo-Yo Pillow, written by yours truly. She’s going to show various ways to cut circles to make this attractive pillow.
And, of course, I’ll be there (Brenda Miller) for your bagmaking questions.
Local Strathroy businesses
Many of our customers drive in for the day from out of town and are interested in other things to do while in town. Downtown Strathroy has some nice shops and restaurants to offer, and even a hotel if you don’t want to drive back the same day.
We’ve invited people from some of these businesses to our grand opening. Now when you schedule a class at ABQ Sewing Studio, you’ll know where else to visit while in Strathroy. Support small businesses in Ontario!
Clothing shops
There are a couple of ladies’ clothing shops located just a couple of blocks from ABQ Sewing Studio, and Emily, Brad, and Nathan will be at our grand opening to say hello.
There will be some awesome coupons to be had and a rack of samples for you to ogle.
Meet them here then visit their shops later, or whenever you come to Strathroy to see us at ABQ Sewing Studio.
Orchard Clothing Company
Orchard sells a variety of stylish clothing in a wide range of sizes, from XS to XXL. Shop at their store on Front Street, or online.
Violets of Strathroy
Also on Front Street, Violets of Strathroy carries ready-to-wear collections for every day and special occasion wear for any event. Find out more about Violets on their Facebook page.
Food and a place to stay
The Clock Tower restaurant and boutique hotel is just steps away from us and Chef Mark will be sending over some of their scrumptious pastries to sample. We’ll also have custard tarts from Arte’s Bakery, Shirley will be doing some baking, and I’ll be making my famous Black Forest Cherry Cake for you.
Pick up your treat in the kitchen and pop on out to our patio to enjoy.
Be sure to pop over to the Clock Tower later for lunch or visit Muggs, our local coffee hangout, just around the corner.
If you follow the newsletter, you’ll have heard me mention the Art’es Bakery. Be sure to drop in there when you come to Strathroy for cakes, pastries and breads.
