The Huron Perth Quilters Guild

The Huron Perth Quilter's Guild has been in existence since September 1983 and currently has approximately 80 members. The Guild meets from Sept. to May on the second Tuesday of each month at the Kirkton/Woodham Community Centre in Kirton Ontario from 9:30 to Noon. Yearly membership is $30.

This is an active guild which provides many free workshops during the meeting time for its members. There is a year-round project which members can participate in which might be a mystery quilt, a project block of the month, or a round robin project. Members teach members in these workshops, generously sharing their skill and knowledge. Mentoring of new members in quilting is encouraged.

Some Quilting Tools

The guild does a great deal of charity work making a large bed-sized quilt each year for "The Quilt Project" to raise funds for Breast Cancer, at its auction in Stratford. Guild members also actively participate in raising funds to support a local family each Christmas.

Show and Tell is always popular each month with a prize being provided by the "Vendor of the Month", a local shop who has set up a sales display at the meeting. The guild has a well-used library which contains many excellent instructional books and periodicals which are lent free of charge.

The social aspect of members interacting with members is of great importance. We support each other as we grow in our quilting knowledge.

Well known and respected teachers/lecturers are brought in to share their experience with us several times a year. Every second year, our guild joins with the Stonetowne Quilters to showcase our work at the Piecemakers Quilting Show held at the St. Mary's Community Centre.

A Machine Quilter

The HPQG is a great group and I would encourage anyone interested to contact me or any other member regarding membership or visiting the guild as a guest. You are entitled to attend two meetings for free before joining!
